To Absent Friends

25 November, 2022: Kismet left us.

Kismet Ting (2008 - 2022)

I will forever remember how soft your fur was,
how you loved to have your ears rubbed and tickled.
I will miss the headbutts you used to give me.
You’re definitely the cutest cat we’ve had.
A cat with a great personality.
Thank you for bringing so much joy into this house
for the past 12 years, little one.
You are missed so much.

12 December, 2017: Vale cousin William.

To a cheeky, funny, generous and very kind cousin:

I will never forget the generosity and respect you’d shown to my family and me.

Visiting Hong Kong will never be the same again.

I will forever miss your replies to my Christmas letters.

You will be greatly missed.

28 June, 2007: Dad left us.

10 August, 2000: I lost a friend today.

One of my ex-managers once said that I don't have many friends in high places. Fortunately, Tom was one of them.

He was on assignment to Tokyo and I was in Tokyo on business. My manager asked him to look after me (i.e. keep me out of trouble). Tom's idea of keeping me out of trouble was taking me to the American Club for dinner.

We hit it off just like that. When he came to Sydney, I introduced him to my family. He called my family his extended family in Australia.

Tom was a true friend.

Tiger Ting
(1981 - 1998)

He was a very intelligent cat, even though I used to call him 'Stupid Cat'. Take one look at the photo and you can see he's the king in the house. He slept wherever he wanted, ate whenever he wanted, goes in and out whenever he pleased. He liked people and was not shy to sit on people's lap, especially women's. I wish I could get away with that!
